I love cats

I had a cat named Pickles (RIP). He was adopted from a co-worker who offered up a couple of kittens for adoption when her cat gave birth to a litter of four or five. Prior to the adoption, I've never really been a cat guy. But since then, I've grown quite fond of Pickles and cats in general. Cats make good pets; they're relatively low-maintenance, intelligent, clean, and occasionally affectionate - but not needy. Sometimes I would just sit and watch him sleep when he looks so peaceful and relaxed. He has a knack for finding the most comfortable places to sleep and does so with wild abandon. I envy him - when did humans lose the ability to relax like this? Pickles (and I guess all cats) has his quirks. He doesn't have much interest in cat toys. He likes to play with ropes and sit in cardboard boxes. He likes to eat Fancy Feast® cat food, yogurt (Activia® brand), bacon (who doesn't like bacon?), Whiskas® Temptations® cat treats, and pretty much anything salty and crunchy. In the winter, he sleeps a lot. In the summer, he loves to go outside. You're probably wondering if I'm ever worried that he'll run away. Yeah, I was worried, initially. But I guess Bubbles (my favorite character in Trailer Park Boys) said it best: "If you love your cat, set it free. If it comes back, you own it. If it doesn't, you're an asshole."
